Chair’s Report 2023
This is my fifth report as Chair of UCH London Nurses’ Charity. My thanks to the trustees, members of the Benevolent Fund Committee and volunteers without whose work the charity would not continue.
Our work has been successful over 2023, we continue to award education and benevolent fund grants, we have good liaison with UCLH
Reflections on the AGM
It didn’t cross my mind that a lovely sunny lunch with friends we hadn’t seen for several years during the summer of 2022 would lead to proofreading the UCH London Nurses’Charity magazine, involvement with the benevolent fund committee and attending the Annual Study Day and Charity Meeting! The repercussions of a reunion with wine can be significant.
Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service
The Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service will be taking place on 16 May at St Paul’s Cathedral at 17.00.
This year sees a change in the venue from Westminster Abbey to St Paul’s due to the coronation of King Charles III, also taking place in May.

We are keen to support the careers of our members whilst improving patient experience and outcomes. It is good to note that applications for funding are beginning to increase.
A Beneficiary of our Benevolent Fund
In particular this year I approached the charity for a financial bursary in light of changes in our family circumstances. I found that the charity responded very compassionately and quickly.
Human Rights and Nursing Awards 2022

Dr Venetia Brown talk “Bouquets of Success”
Welcome to a series of quarterly talks on current nursing issues. The first one is a pre-recorded talk given by Dr Venetia Brown, Middlesex University. Venetia trained at UCH between 1983 and 1986. She is currently Director of Programmes (Nursing) leading on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Co-Director of Teaching and Learning in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery.
King’s Cross Fire Disaster Anniversary
The 18 November 2022 will mark the 35th anniversary of the King’s Cross Fire Disaster where 31 people tragically died and over 100 people were taken to hospital, with 19 being very seriously injured. Were you involved?
